Welcome to September’s journal entry! September is a landmark month for us each year as my eldest son starts a brand new school year and me and my husband celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. This year we celebrate 10 years so it is extra special! It is also the month where we summer disappears and the coolness of autumn starts to make itself at home.
On The Needles & Hooks
This month I am pleased to announce that I completed the Pagan Sky jumper and it fits beautifully! I did knit the cuffs to 8cm instead of the suggested 5cm, but otherwise I followed the pattern as written (minus a few colourwork errors but no one will notice them). The yarn is very soft and I find it comfortable to wear against the skin on my arms too.
This project was my first time making a folded neckline and using a tubular cast off. Both of these techniques gave me beautiful results and I am very pleased to have now learnt these for future projects.
The crochet blanket did get a little bit bigger, but ultimately needed to be put to the side because a project came up at work which took over my extra time. I am pleased with the decision to alternate dark blue daisy squares with lighter blue plain squares. I briefly considered doing just plain squares in the centre of the blanket, but changed my mind to have the daisies all over. Are they daisies? I’m not sure. They remind me of daisies. What do you think?
Life & Inspiration
This month was slower around the home. Although some parts of my abdomen still feel sore, the majority of my recovery is behind me and I have been catching up on garden and house work. With the cooler but still warm and sunny weather some of the plants that had been struggling have decided to have a second go at life. Cucumber plants that had all but given up have suddenly produced some new fruit, and a few squashes, though too late to do anything meaningful, produced fresh leaves.
All this seems at odds with the arrival of blackberries in the bushes and conkers falling from the trees, of which my kids love collecting every day after school.
It feels like summer has tried to hold on a little longer than usual this year, and we have been gifted with some beautiful sunsets this month. The best one on our Wedding Anniversary!
Shop & Pattern News
There is not much to say on this. The unexpected work project took most of my spare hours this month. However, the new baby blanket pattern is written. I have photo editing and tech editing to get done, and I aim to announce the test knit call in October.
Looking Ahead & Goals
October looks to be another busy month, especially with a training course for the new job. I am going to try and keep my goals small for October:
- being the test knit for the baby blanket
- crochet more of the gift blanket
- chart out the second rose inspired cowl
