Welcome to October’s journal entry! Make yourself a warm drink and cosy yourself up in a blanket because the weather has turned and the chills are arriving on the wind as leaves tumble to the ground.

On The Needles & Hooks

This month I have an admission to make. I got distracted. A lot.

So I set out with goals to start the test knit for the Sunbeam Baby Blanket, work on the crochet gift blanket, and chart the new rose inspired cowl. I did some of the crochet blanket, and none of the other things.

As you can see from the above photo I am nearing completion of the 4th row of the blanket. I do have several squares ready to be joined in. However, I also made…

The Oh Baby! Cardi – this is such a quick and easy to follow free pattern on Ravelry:

3 pairs of child sized Ancestral Fingerless Mittens for the Shoebox charity my sons school is participating in this year:

A Hoodola for my niece at Christmas – this was surprisingly easy for a one piece knit and I learnt Judy’s Magic Cast On:

and I cast on a new Hitofude Cardigan. I made one of these many years ago and I absolutely love it. This time I have chosen one of my own hand dyed yarns in a pink colour, however it is likely I will need to transition to either a red or purple colour as I only had 2 hanks of the pink. This time I will be knitting the sleeves as written, but have in my mind to transition the lace pattern into a different lace pattern for the main body. I’m just not sure what yet. I’ll be improvising this one as I go 😆

Life & Inspiration

The start and middle of this month revolved a lot around a work project, which should see a temporary pause before the next stage begins. I say “should” but we all know how that usually works out!

At the end of the month the school half-term holidays saw us travel to Dorset.

Due to the tail end of some storms we went through the first night with a power cut. A little embarrassing for me because this was the first holiday while packing where I looked at the emergency supplies (torch, candles, etc) and thought I won’t need them. We’d never needed them before, but I guess that’s how the universe works!

Bournemouth Beach

The main reason we chose Dorset is because back in April we visited The Tank Museum and the Fleet Arm Air Museums, and we all absolutely loved visiting. Both museums were packed full of exhibitions and things for all of us, including our 2 year old son. Since the tickets automatically include admission for a year, we wanted to return.

However, we also wanted to visit the World Heritage Site Durdle Door. I had visited once myself as a child on a school trip, so it was exciting to go back.

When we arrived it was nearing lunch time, and the wind was rather strong, so we headed down the steps to the Man O’ War beach first for some shelter and a spot to sit and eat. I think we got a pretty good picnic view! ⬇️

The wind had picked up even more when we climbed the steps back up, so my husband took our youngest back to the car. Leaving me and our eldest son to finish the climb down to the beach of Durdle Door.

After sitting on the stones enjoying the view and the sound of crashing waves for a while, and with no towels etc, we took off our socks and shoes, rolled up our trousers, and let the waves roll over our feet. Some of the waves a little bigger than expected!

With over 200 people on that beach with us, only the two of us and two other young children went in the water. I very much hope this is one memory he will think of fondly as he grows up. I know I will.

There is not much to say on this because of the aforementioned distractions. Oops!

Looking Ahead & Goals

Do I dare set goals for November? Maybe I should stick with something simple like do some knitting and not buy new yarn?

What are you crafting in November?

Take care and happy crafting,
Love Sam xox
