About the Design
Lucy’s Blanket follows a timeless, comforting construction for traditional baby blankets, but gives it a modern twist with some truly unusual stitch patterns. Knitted in a lovely lightweight yarn and finished with a gorgeous, intricate lace border, it is crafted to become a treasured family heirloom passed down through generations.
Materials:
~ 4 x skeins of Drops Flora Yarn (50g /210m each)
~ 3.00mm (UK8 / US6) Circular Knitting Needle—120cm length
~ 3.00mm (UK8 / US6) Double Pointed Needles
~ 4 x Stitch Markers (1 to be different)
~ Small amount of waste yarn
~ Darning Needle
~ Scissors
Difficulty: Intermediate/ Advanced
How It’s Constructed
The blanket is created in three distinct stages:
- The Diamond Centre: First, the centre diamond is knitted flat from one point to the opposite point, creating neat yarn-over edges as you increase and decrease.
- The Border: Stitches are smoothly picked up along those yarn-over edges, allowing you to knit the border in the round, expanding outwards.
- The Lace Edging: To finish, the intricate lace edge is knitted sideways directly onto the live stitches, gracefully casting off the blanket as you work.
To guide you gently through the process, the pattern includes both clear charts and full written instructions, along with video tutorial links for the specific knot stitch variations used in the design.
