One of the things I do to practice designing colourwork is to just create charts.

You can copy other existing charts, or freestyle with the grid. Many of the charts I create never make it any further than just practicing. But the more you practice, the more the look and composition of designs becomes natural.

Kris Kross came about from one of these charts. Part way through creating a chart something stood out at me, and with the addition of the open crosses, the design went in a totally different direction.

Materials
~ 1 x skein of Black & Blue by Midwinter Yarns in colour Potion (100% Welsh Wool / 100g / 210m) – Main Colour approximately 70g/ 147m
~ 1 x skein of Washford by Fated Yarns in colour Natural (100% Superwash Merino Wool / 100g / 225m) – Contrast Colour approximately 35g/ 79m
~ 3.50mm 60cm Circular Knitting Needle
~ Darning Needle
~ Scissors

Difficulty: Beginner/ Intermediate

Skills Used:

  • Knit & Purl
  • Stranded Colourwork
  • Knitting in the Round
