Diamond Cowl Knitting Pattern

Hi lovely people! Grab a warm cup of tea and come meet the Diamond Cowl.

Shhh! Please don’t tell anyone, but the design for this cowl was actually inspired by some wallpaper I spotted in a local DIY shop! I became completely determined to see if I could convert that elegant, geometric pattern into a knitted chart. I even stuck to a similar muted color scheme to give the finished piece an elegant, timeless look.

About the Design

The Diamond Cowl is a cozy, stranded colorwork design that beautifully balances structured lines with soft, wearable comfort. By utilizing a two-strand colorwork technique, the pattern forms crisp, intersecting lines that frame classic diamond motifs. It creates a wonderfully thick, warm fabric that rests beautifully around your neck, making it a perfect staple piece for cold-weather wardrobes.

Pattern Details

• Difficulty: Intermediate (Great for knitters comfortable with basic stranded colorwork and reading from a chart).
• Skills Used: Working in the round, stranded colorwork (two colors active at a time), reading a colorwork chart, and catching floats.
• Materials Needed:
  • 2 contrasting colours of your favourite cosy DK yarn
  • 60cm 3.5mm circular knitting needles
  • Stitch markers
  • A darning needle
• Please note that the pattern instructions are written, but the colourwork motif is charted only.

Pattern Construction

The cowl is knitted entirely in the round from the bottom up, creating a seamless tube of colorwork. It features neat, simple ribbing at both the top and bottom borders to help the cowl hold its shape over time and prevent rolling. The main body of the cowl utilizes a rhythmic, repeating chart that is both engaging to knit and incredibly satisfying to watch grow on your needles.
